Welcome to Staircase Railing Part One of a four or five part series! If you are in the process of designing your dream home and don’t know what type of staircase railing you want to use, then scroll on down and see if one of these tickles your fancy. If you don’t find it here, there will be several more posts in this series and perhaps the one you want will be in one of those.
This post is a collection of staircase railing (sometimes called balustrade) using iron for the newel, spindles or balusters, and handrail. The designs range from frilly to traditional as wells as simple or contemporary. Perhaps there is an element in one of the photos that appeals to you and that can be your starting place. Lovely! I was hooked on stairway banisters a couple of weeks ago. It's nice to meet someone who is as fascinated by them as I am. Thank you for sharing so many photographs! ~Arleen
These are so good and they'll last for 100's of years. We have the simplest iron rail. It's not a place that shows off. But it has a subtle shape that feels comfortable, cool, and rock solid every time. The builders were planning on a simple wooden rail. This is 100% better, less expensive, installed in half the time.
So many railings, not enough stairs! Number 3 (shot) is very "me", but I would have to go with plain and simple, they are simply grand! Thanks for visual inspiration, Susan.

My hubby and I are going to build and install new railings in our house. I'm working on designing the newel posts, and then hopefully hubby will get to work!! Till then, I'm crossing my fingers that nobody falls off the stairs or through the big holes in the floors!!

Funny, but after being in a house with a large staircase this past weekend, I have come to the conclusion that I REALLY like rambling ranches better (can't believe I would EVER say that!)

beautiful pics...I would love to see a follow-up on how people decorate the landings and stairwells...I can't decide if I'm truly happy with what I've done in my little stair alcove, and am always looking for other's ideas!
I loved the railings, but could not get enough of the entry designs,at the bottom of the staircases.
They really are all quiet stunning..., I think I favor the black iron ones.

I like iron staircase.
They give's a nice look.
And the way they designed. I just luved it
I like the frilly ornamental iron spiral stairs. It looks good as it is even without extra ornaments.
