Did you notice how the railing system looks very well fabricated to guard someone from falling?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664504881218301819.post-75758659411803526032009-06-30T15:17:38.050-05:002009-06-30T15:17:38.050-05:00#4 is intriguing, isn't it?

I'm taking the carpet off--I have carpeted back stairs that we use most often, so it will be pretty to show off the wood.

The funny thing? Metal is less expensive and easier to work with, so no one wants to do the job! Everyone keeps handing me the metal books, and suggesting that I go with metal, on my super-traditional home! Apparently there are only a couple places in town that still do quality wood banisters.

Next project--can you do balcony railings? Mine weren't to code and I'm having to redo those, too.

www.avenuemonaco.com for my Money Pit.bondgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13803831426250502962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664504881218301819.post-72803672010147552332009-06-30T07:27:33.402-05:002009-06-30T07:27:33.402-05:00What beautiful pictures to illustrate your points....What beautiful pictures to illustrate your points. I LOVE looking through your web site.

#8 Grabs me. The contrast of the light walls and the dark wood make it homey and comforting at the same time not stuffy. I also like the red rug contrast of the green walls. (I have this in my house now. )

11 The bulklyness of the wood is charming to me. It's simple but I think the railings would be a pain to clean. ha!

13 Caught me the most. I like that the walkway crosses over the living room looking down. Also that the fireplace rises up through the walkway.

I would combine 13 fireplace and 8 coloring of wood and paint for the perfect combo.

Thanks for posting!Vickihttp://www.stiruntilsmooth.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664504881218301819.post-65466259743876929142009-04-30T11:57:00.000-05:002009-04-30T11:57:00.000-05:00WOW. Chunky & solid structure, but soft colour and lines.

#12 because I love circles!! This is one of the most unique railings I've ever seen. The wood is gorgeous -- love the wainscoting too :-)

Kelly @ DesignTiesDesignTieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02561438683476880640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664504881218301819.post-34976716802775872902009-04-29T20:41:00.000-05:002009-04-29T20:41:00.000-05:00My favorite is #6 - love that style! My favorite is #6 - love that style!Linda Merrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07484402027814646865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664504881218301819.post-82521526103862287632009-04-29T16:27:00.000-05:002009-04-29T16:27:00.000-05:00My goodness -- - with this comprehensive staircase...My goodness -- - with this comprehensive staircase post , why wait for your report on your neighbor?
This is great - you really did your homework.

I'll look forward to stopping by again - thanks for your thoughtful comment!

JudithstudioJudithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05560914513878435960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2664504881218301819.post-73489553449240783442009-04-29T16:05:00.000-05:002009-04-29T16:05:00.000-05:00The newer styles are leaning toward the iron raili...The newer styles are leaning toward the iron railings, but I am in love with a great wood! The turned/twisted rails are my true favorite. The gnarlier the better!
